Reading Assignment for February 1

Please buy your copy of Kenneth Goldsmith's "Uncreative Writing" and have it with you in class next week (this is part one of your assignment). Part two of your assignment is to read the Introduction and the first three chapters (pp 1-82). I will keep a spare copy of "Uncreative Writing" in the Poetry Vault if you're waiting for your copy to arrive (in that case, please bring the electronic notice that it has been ordered). Anyone who has trouble getting this book, for whatever reason, please write to me at csmith@corcoran.org

Your first "paper", due February 15 (three weeks from today) will consist of 100 statements/passages from "UW" transcribed verbatim. Next week we'll model precisely how this will work. Get started in marking your text; you can type them up later, or keep a running document as you read week by week (recommended). Reading schedule is as follows.

Feb 1: Intro and chapters 1,2, & 3 (1-82)
Feb 8: Chapters 4,5, & 6 (83-149)
Feb 15: Chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and Afterword (150-227)
