Endless thanks to Brian Cassidy for his talk in class today!
And thanks to you, dear students, for a great afternoon. To me, today's class exemplified the amazing things about Corcoran Culture: We started by taking care of class business and discussing Language Poetry, we went up to G31 to hear from Kelly, Kesi, and Jordyn about their work in "Transient Space" (which, by the way, is one of the best shows in that space ever), we were amused and bemused or perhaps bored (I am pro-boredom b/t/w) by my weirdo film, and then we experienced Brian's talk and demonstration. There might be a couple of other people alive on this planet that could have delivered a comparable talk and shown comparable books. I don't think so though. Check out brian cassidy, bookseller. Share the link with people who might be interested, either as interested scholar/artists or as collectors.
For me, the most thrilling objects were the scrappiest: the d.a. levy mimeo compilation, Floating Bear, L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E, Fuck You, the DC stuff. I will argue throughout our remaining seminars that this mode of publication-- DIY or close to it-- is where the action was, is, and will be. This will be the work that moves poetry forward, not titles published by Knopf or university presses.
