John Cage Etc

John Cage will perhaps come to be seen as important as Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, and Bob Ross in the history of art. This might already be so. Everybody knows about 4'33" but that's about it. Here is a great interview with Cage: sounds, silence, music
For class this Thursday: Listen to Cage's famous 1977 performance in Milan:  Empty WordsThe total time is over two and a half hours. If you can't listen to the entire piece, listen to the first ten minutes of the first part, the first ten minutes of the second part, and the last ten minutes of the second part. What is there to say about this amazing performance?

Spend time with the Cage sound resources on ubuweb:  Cage Page
Also trawl through some of the seemingly endless resources on the main sound page: Sound Art
Here is one of my favorites: Sean Landers's "The Man Within"
